Kick ass!

Dear oxfordhacker,
We would like to relax the outright ban on your use of the internet as a reflection of the commitment you have shown to your work since you joined company name excluded for security reasons. Please note that you should familiarize yourself with the communications policy set out in the section 5.3 of the company name excluded for security reasons handbook concerning the use of the Internet.
Please understand that it is very much a privilege provided at our discretion, and not a right, and that your use will be monitored more carefully than those of other people due to the concerns raised by your referees.
Yours sincerely,
The MD

Never has such equivocal correspondence led to such unequivocal pleasure.
I've missed jeopardising my job by pissing my life away on this site you guys!

wait, your job banned you from using the internet?

Sort of. It turns out that one of the people that I gave as a reference for this job delivered something of a hatchet job, in which he mentioned (amongst other less reasonable comments) that I have often been reprimanded for too much internet usage. Thus, a condition of me working here was no using the internet for fun EVER, which I guess was fair enough from their point of view. During my glowing mid-year review last month I asked if this condition was ever to be lifted, with (after much debate) the above result.

I can't possibly think you might mean when you say that!! *grins*

Welcome back. Now you must start commenting on my journal again. You were high in the league table of commentees but you're rapidly slipping down...

Welcome back!
It's easy to forget how difficult the private sector can be.

hahahahahahaha :-))))
Well, at least you didn't smack the keys too heavily whilst you frittered away your so-valued time when you were at the company/ies your referees came from. Unlike some of us.

I have a book for you and Herself to share, BTW - can I send it to your joint corporate address or do they frown on personal parcels as well as personal Internet use?

(You could e-mail yr snailmail address to me if you'd rather.)

Re: hahahahahahaha :-))))
Hey! The way that you smacked the keys heavily is nothing compared to some high up person (in office) that I now have to sit in close proximity too. I've seen it, she pounds the keys from a foot away and she doesn't even have the decency to shut the door (mutter mutter grumble grumble)

I wonder how many faces you would recognise if you swung by the offices these days?

Re: keys and recognition
Chances are that said person grew up, as I did, knowing how to type. On a manual typewriter. I know that 'II is brilliantly light on the keyboard but he wouldn't stand a chance against a 2.5-stone Remington upright; I could probably churn out my 40 words a minute pretty easily.

Depends on which faces I'd be trying to recognise. :-) And which weapon I was carrying.

OK, what you have to do apparently
... is to say the prayer on this website when 'logging on to the internet' (it says here) http://www.catholic.org/isidore/ asking for the intercession of St. Isadore, patron saint of the internet. Isadore is the patron saint because he allegedly wrote the first encyclopedia, he is mentioned in one of PKDs posthumous non-SF novels, though I forget which.

If you ever drift back into consciousness, it might be worth knowing that I've moved to 7725369. Might not. Up to you.
