Yesterday evening at work, I experienced three emotions in the space of one minute! That's one more than I usually muster in an entire working day, even if you count irritated boredom and bored irritation as different. I was sitting listening to a podcast and doing some haphazard support work when I realised that one of the directors was trying to attract my attention.

"Could you come over here for a minute? Sit down..."
Shit! What does he want to talk to me about? This can't be good...
"We've got a new project that I need your help on."
Hooray! Maybe my job's about to get more interesting!
"It's testing another company's software."
Oh. All the boredom of testing, with the added tiresome burden of contractual accountability. Sigh.

Back to the job applications, then...

Does this get better if there are lots of errors, or none? (I'm thinking of parallels to one of my top three Most Pointless Exercises Ever, which was commenting/testing-for-any-sense-at-all on a technical paper written in English by French Canadian-educated scientists on the molecular chemistry of copper. It was unreadable owing to excessively fractured syntax. If your task is like that, can you say "I can't help you on that, no", or do you get the pleasure of shooting fish in a barrel?)
