Hmmm...

This sounds like it's either an awesome or terrible idea, but I'm genuinely not sure which. If only there were some way of getting other people to decide for me...

Wait! Of course!

Thom Yorke out of Radiohead forming a band which includes Flea out of Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Good

Bad

I'm not entirely sure either - though it *could* work - but I was swayed towards 'good' simply because it would piss off my Ex O'Doom, and that would be funny.

(He hates the Chilis with a passion because they're apparently too funky and not intelligent enough.)

too funky and not intelligent enough

I realise that you may not be paraphrasing entirely objectively, but this does make him sound terribly po-faced. It's the sort of criticism that Principal Squareford levels against those high-spirited kids who are just trying to express themselves. Based on this, I predict he'll be won over eventually and will end up dancing to them in public in an amusingly uncool way.

He was a weird mixture of decadence (in his enjoyment of any entertainment he perceived to be intelligent) and po-facedness (regarding anything he saw as Entertainment for the Stupid*). He loved to dance to The Mercy Seat by Nick Cave as though he was actually being electrocuted, but was also capable of spitting rants against funky music in which the word 'funk' was uttered as if it was worse than genocide. A mass of contradictions - like most of us, I suppose.

I started out earlier in bitchy mood, but now I'm genuinely curious as to what he'd think of this unholy Yorke/Flea hybrid.

I like the way this poll's been neck-and-neck all day!

That would have made it too easy. The beauty of the Good/Bad poll is its Manichean purity.

it's not really helping you decide right now is it though? (5:5 at time of posting....)

I don't particularly like RHCP, but really... how could Thom Yorke ever make a musically "bad" decision? That's simply impossible IMHO.

Yorkie tends to be at his worst when pretentious and/or po-faced. I can't imagine that being possible with Flea in the band. That, and I do like the Chilis. And the car-crash combo looks like it can only be silly, but most likely in an entertaining way. So it's a definite yes.
